Streaming Help
There are a lot of variables, and a lot of things people don't understand about the way streaming audio (or video) works on their computer. It can seem very confusing at times - but we've worked hard to reduce the problems, so it should be easy to get things working.
The first thing that has to be checked is your connection. Is it fast enough? If you are using a dial-up phone connection, then it simply will not work. DownCitySignal standard is currently 48kbps, and you're never going to handle that much audio with dial-up. (And since cell phone online connections are faster than that these days... maybe its time to upgrade?) Dial-up connections won't be able to handle the live streaming and the pre-recorded things will take a long time to buffer before it plays.
The second thing you have to determine is whether you are trying to listen to a live broadcast (a direct stream from a studio or an event), a re-broadcast of a previous stream, or a standard signal on our network.
If the show has already broadcast live or is a standard signal, and you click the "listen in" link, a little window pops up that gives you a flash player from our site to play the audio.
This is done to avoid trouble; we give you the player, so you don't need to worry about what plays it on your end. The biggest obstacle most people have here is either they are blocking the popup window or their flash plugin is outdated. If you see the window popup, then you are not blocking them; but if you get a window and never see the player, then it's probably your plugin.
The DownCitySignal player needs at least Flash Player 8 to operate; version 9 is the current release. The plugin is free, and you can get it on our software page.
If the show is currently broadcast live, the popup window will popup as before, but instead of loading the player, it will send you a broadcast link. This link is then passed to whatever program your system uses to play streaming audio. For some, it's Windows Media Player. For others its Winamp, or a hundred other third party programs for PCs. Then there's iTunes for Apple.
We send a very generic stream; so that it works in a wide variety of players -- in fact, all of the players mentioned above have played live DCS signals. Our advice if you have a PC is to install the easiest player we've found that works: Winamp. It's been around a long time, and they originally coded the generic streams that everyone else now uses; so their software should be perfectly compatible. Plus its free, and you can get it on our software page. |

Broadcaster Help
The most common help broadcasters want is that they lost the login link to SignalAdmin. Well, here it is. The other thing they want to know is where is the manual for the Signal Admin. All we can say is we're working on it. (Writing manuals sucks). If you need any immediate help, please contact support.
